What I learned from creating Donald Trumps resume

What I learned from creating Donald Trumps resumeWhat I learned from creating Donald Trumps resumeThis resume welches updated on 09/11/2016 to reflect the results of the elections. In the midst of this crazy 2016 election, I set about researching and creating resumes for both candidates using the platform. The idea was to cut through the horse-race media coverage and hopefully learn something insightful about the candidates.I posted Hillary Clintons Resume a few days ago, so now its time to bring out Trumps. What did I learn here? There Were Years of UncertaintyThe biggest takeaway here is the general shift of Donald Trumps life from a kid without much direction (he went to military school and spent some time at Fordham University before deciding it wasnt for him) into someone who seemed to know exactly what he wants. Honestly, thats something he seems to want to forget.Trump famously doesnt like being too introspective, so this aspect of his past has been really left out of his campa ign. It seems 1964 was a pivotal year when he both left Fordham University to enter The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and when he started working for his fathers real estate company. This really places Trump in the context of the 60s. In 1964 he could have made a lot of choices. It was a time when many people his age were beginning to question the economic and political systems their parents helped build. But he chose the real estate business, his fathers real estate business.Related articlesA powerful one page resume exampleWhy I put Immigrant on my resumeWhat Game of Thrones needs an HR departmentThe 80s Changed EverythingAside from a failed attempt at being the co-producer of a Broadway play, the rest of the 60s and 70s seemed to be times spent focused on building his real estate business. Its not until the 1980s when Trump, the aspirational media star, comes through in his resume. This shift really turned Trump into the character we know today.Whats interesting is how that media and brand development business interacts with Trumps more basic real estate business. The idea is that one reinforces the other, which hasnt always worked out. But you cant deny that Trump has stuck with it.The FutureOf course what you dont see anywhere on Trumps resume is politics. Right now, its an open question what his future will be whether he wins or loses the presidency. Even if he wins, would he return to business after his term in geschftszimmer? Its connected to the age old question what does a man with everything want? What we do know is that a great resume really gives a clearer picture of a person. Looking at how Trump spends his days, what personal attributes he would choose to emphasize tells us a lot about his values and desires. Well just have to wait to see how he remakes himself this time.If youre looking for your next opportunity and have a great story to tell, check out our resume building tool at .

Sample Resignation Letters - New Job as a Manager

Sample Resignation Letters - New Job as a ManagerSample Resignation Letters - New Job as a ManagerWriting a resignation letter is a tricky business. You want your employer to know that you are definitely leaving and when. In many instances, you may even want to tell your employer why you are leaving. Reasons to Write a Resignation Letter You may decide to tell the employer why you are leaving especially when you are sharing good news about your career. While your leaving may not be positive for your current employer, the appearance of success and a new opportunity leave a positive impression with your manager and others who access your personnel file over the years. In other cases, you may decide to keep the letter short, to-the-point, and professional, but provide no information about why youre leaving in writing. It depends on the circumstances under which you are leaving and the culture and expectations of your organization. Job search and career experts recommend that the res ignation letter, and the possible exit interview if your organization does them, stay positive and professional no matter why you have decided to leave your job. The key is to speak honestly, but not to disparage, criticize or come off looking like an idiot. After all, your real opportunity to improve your organization and fix the reasons that may have caused you to leave was while you were still a committed employee. Under no circumstances do you want to burn any bridges by how you decide to resign from your current job. You dont want to harm your reputation or future opportunities. You never know when you will meet or need your coworkers again. Your paths may cross again in the future or you can discover that their recommendation could pave the way for your next opportunity. Your coaching and support have been invaluable to my career and professional progress. I will also miss working with many of my coworkers and our customers and take many positive memories with me to my new employment.Again, best wishes for a positive future. Please call on me if there is anything I can do to help ease the transfer of my work to other employees or to help train your new employee.Again, I am excited about my new opportunity but sad to leave an organization where I have been happy.Sincerely,Employee SignatureEmployee Name Expand Sample Resignation Letter Brief Future Plans This second sample letter is brief and does not state why the employee is leaving, only that he is leaving for a new job and happy to train others. Finding the Best Skills on Resume

Finding the Best Skills on Resume To raise your chances of being approved, your relevant abilities and keywords ought to be highlighted on your CV. Its crucial that you do your research, so you know of all of the vital requirements. Functional format should only be used whenever you are changing the fields, and youre quite certain about the skills-oriented format will display your skills to your benefit. The Skills on Resume Cover Up Others can be obtained through experience learning at work. If youre just beginning, you might want to place a larger emphasis on education and internships. You may write the job winning resume only in case you have thorough understanding of resume writing. Theres a whole lot of discrepancy in opinion about which special skills belong on your resume. The placement of your skills section is also a rather important point to think about. Because your skill section is just a list of the absolute most useful job skills, there isnt any need to writ e in sentences here. Your skills section stipulates a window into how much capability it is possible to bring to the firm. On the base of your resume, theres a section devoted to your special skills. The Hidden Treasure of Skills on Resume Its so vital to be sure your soft skills are extremely clearly communicated in the body of the resume. If you would like to showcase your organization skills, obtaining a tightly structured resume certainly helps. Dont forget, the majority of the exceptional skills that you set on your resume needs to be job-related skills taken from the work description and your best transferable skills. On the flip side, soft abilities, also called interpersonal or social abilities, are those that you have as personal qualities or you get through professional experiences. Technical skills are either something youve got or you dont, but theyre always something which you are able to learn. Professional skills are extremely important additionally to include on your resume. Skills of a secretary can fluctuate drastically. Soft abilities, on the flip side, arent simple to quantify. They are the skills that apply to every job. In the majority of cases, your soft skills can boost your hard skills. Hard skills can be classified in various ways, depending upon your job title. They tend to be more technical, and each industry or type of job will usually have its own required set. Read through it a couple of occasions and youll probably spot three or four essential skills mentioned repeatedly throughout the document. Other helpful skills are gun handling together with basic stage combat, so you understand how to throw and have a punch without anyone getting hurt. To maximize your chances of receiving an interview you must customize your resume to every position you apply for. My treasured worthless skill is being a certified driver. Furthermore even in the event the job is in another country an individual can apply for it all of the way sitting at your house . For example, employers value skilled workers with a track record of getting it done on time. Ruthless Skills on Resume Strategies Exploited Only 10 years back the social networking manager role wasnt even a job or a career. The management skills term is a favorite, Lucjan states. Various kinds of work in the food service industry require resumes with several of the very same skills. In real life, you must prove your small business management abilities. You might take a look at our Medical Receptionist Resumes. Staying current on your occupation is important to getting a superior staff accountant resume. Additionally, youre no longer on the lookout for a teaching job The work candidate does not just copy the work description, but instead includes their very own relevant haircare methods. The area of direct hilfestellung is quite dynamic and your direct support professional resume should demonstrate that youre keeping up with every one of the c hanges. A good example of miscellaneous skills include your willingness to travel and whether you own a passport. Its rather hard to say which kind of skills is more critical for an employer. The soft skills needed for a doctor, for instance, would be empathy, understanding, active listening and a great bedside manner.

Vitamins make me feel so much better I take L-theanine, which is a natural supplement to help with stress and anxiety, she said. Not too long agoLadders reported on the rise of nootropics. The natural brain-boosting supplements have been studied to yield pretty consistent effects, especially when coupled with other healthy dietary habits and physical activity.Theanine is an amino acid that is known for its ability to reach the brain quickly by reason of its structure. In companion with caffeine, it provides a remarkable enhancement to cognition. According to a study, L-theanine and caffeine in combination are beneficial for improving performance on cognitively demanding tasks. It mitigates the effects of anxiety by reducing its symptoms, like a racing heart for instance a nd elevated blood pressure.Unlike fruchtwein conventional anti-anxiety medication, the reduction of anxiety thatL-Theanine engenders does not come at the cost of alertness. How to ensure your voice is heard at work

How to ensure your voice is heard at work How to ensure your voice is heard at work They say no man - or woman - is an island, and that becomes especially important in the workplace. Businesses, regardless of their size, can’t succeed without their teams. In some cases, it might seem like one voice is lost in the crowd, especially when you’re dealing with a large team or company. If that voice is yours, the situation can make it hard to get your job done. What should you do if you feel like you’re not being heard at work? Here are four steps.Start by Speaking UpIf you feel like you aren’t being heard at work, the first step you should take is to try to speak up. Pick a meeting or a situation and politely speak up for yourself. If you’re used to being ignored, this time can be the perfect opportunity to advocate for yourself. The key here is to be polite - rudeness won’t get you anywhere and might end up getting you disciplined for your behavior. If your ideas or suggestions are being blown off, gently bring the attention of the room back to them - ask questions that are directed at the people ignoring your ideas or not listening to you. This strategy might take some practice. It can also take some time to learn what each person responds to - some might respond better to questions while others like direct statements that bring their attention back to the subject at hand.If advocating for yourself doesn’t have any effect, it might not have anything to do with you as a person - it might be how you’re communicating.Change Your Communication StrategyWhen you’re presenting an idea, how do you hold your body? Do you make eye contact with your audience, or do you make it a point to avoid meeting anyone’s eyes? Do you stand with your shoulders back and head up, or do you hunch your shoulders and keep your arms crossed? Your body language can have a lot to do with whether or not people listen to you.Even your voice can determine whether people hear you out. A trick that can help is one that call center agents have used for years - just smile. Even if they can’t see your face, they can hear the smile in your voice, and that will make them more likely to listen to what you have to say.Be  mindful of your body language  when you’re speaking. The more confident you look, the more likely it is that people will listen to you when you take the time to talk.Take It up the Chain of CommandIf advocating for yourself isn’t enough, it might be time to take it up the chain of command. Again, be polite. Don’t go in and act accusatory, like it’s your supervisor’s fault that your coworkers aren’t listening to you.One good way to approach the situation is to ask if there’s anything you can do to ensure that your voice is heard. Your company may prefer that ideas are presented in a specific format or that you wait to introduce new ideas until a designated brainstorming session or after a meeting. It’s entirely possible that they aren’t listening to you because you aren’t complying with how things are d one in that particular setting. If you’re being ignored, however, speaking to a supervisor can make all the difference.Pack up and GoYou deserve to be a valued part of your team, even if they don’t agree with or automatically implement every one of your ideas. If speaking up for yourself, changing your communication strategy and speaking to your supervisor hasn’t changed anything, you have one good option left - start hunting for a new position with a company and a team that will actually appreciate your contributions. It might not be the best option or one that you really want to think about, but if your work is being continuously unappreciated or ignored, it might be time for a change. Make sure you leave your current job on good terms and after you’ve found a new position. While they might not appreciate your ideas or your work, you don’t want to burn those bridges - they might give you a glowing letter of recommendation as you transition to your new job, and that can m ake all the difference.Make sure you  give enough notice  and wrap up any projects that you’re currently working on. Offering to train your replacement, even if your current company declines the offer, can also make you look good both in the eyes of your current boss as well as the new one. Consider connecting with your coworkers too - networking is a vital skill. Even if you’re no longer working with them, chances are, you’ll cross paths with them again sometime in the future. Its always good to leave things on good terms. No one likes to feel like their work is being ignored or unappreciated. You have every right to stand up for yourself and have your voice heard. If you’re still being ignored no matter what you do, consider that it might be time to move on from your current position. You might be surprised at how much better your career becomes once you’re finally being heard at work. For more information on how to get your voice heard in the workplace - or if we’ve m issed a crucial piece of advice that you’d like to share with us - please leave a comment below, or  click here to subscribe  for more information! This article first appeared on Punched Clocks.

How to Demonstrate Transferable Skills on Your Resume

How to Demonstrate Transferable Skills on Your Resume How to Demonstrate Transferable Skills on Your Resume 4You’ve finally found it- the job of your dreams. You’ve enthusiastically read the job description a dozen times. You know you’re going to toss your hat into the ring, but there’s one shred of doubt that’s been looming in the back of your mind: your experience is a little out-of-the-box. Perhaps you’re making the move from marketing to sales. Or, maybe all of your experience has been in the nonprofit sector and you’re switching to a tech startup. Regardless of the specifics, you know it’s going to take a little more elbow grease to prove yourself as a no-brainer fit for that position. Well, it all comes down to how you highlight your transferable skills. Here’s what you need to know to make the most of your transferable skills on your resume: What are transferable skills? Transferable skills are actually pretty simple- they’re the skills you pick up in one employment setting that can seamlessly be transferred to your next job. If you aren’t making a major career or industry change, then you probably have a lot of these to offer. Your coding capabilities, for example, will serve you well in your next web development job. But, if you are making a switch in terms of role or field, then transferable skills usually relate to your softer competencies- such as organization, leadership, problem-solving, communication, and other skills that aren’t so technical in nature. Start by analyzing the job description. You need to figure out which skills of yours are transferable and should be showcased on your resume. The best place to start is by taking a fine-tooth comb to the description for your desired job. While doing so, keep a notepad and a pen next to you. Jot down the words and requirements that are repeated or stand out. Does the phrase “skilled communicator” crop up a few times? Has the description emphasized that they need someone who can juggle multiple projects at one time? Write those things down so that you can come back to them in the next step. Compare that to your own experience. You have a list of the core things they’re looking for to fill that open role. Now it’s time to match those up against your own experience to see what skills you should be drawing attention to. Perhaps they’re looking for someone who is an expert at managing project timelines and budgets. While you might not have a ton of traditional project management experience, you saw a lot of projects through from start to finish in your last role as a marketing manager. That’s a facet of that role you should be emphasizing. Again, jot down these parallels between what the position is looking for and what you have to offer. In doing so, you’re creating a list of what your resume absolutely needs to include. It’s important that you’re honest with yourself here. There’s nothing wrong with pulling out different pieces of an experience to highlight or finding a way to present that information in a way that’s more relevant to your desired position. But, there’s a big difference between doing that and flat-out lying about what you bring to the table. Tweak your resume. Armed with your list, it’s time to inject this information into your resume to present yourself as a qualified fit. You can do this in your summary, your key skills section, and even in your resume bullets. Let’s look at a quick example for some clarity. You’ve worked as a customer support specialist for the past couple of years and are now looking to make the jump into a sales role. In describing your job as a customer support specialist, you have a bullet point that says: Answered customer questions and solved customer problems You could adjust that to say: Established and maintained positive relationships with clients and customers by answering their questions and assisting them in troubleshooting See how that draws stronger connections to what would be required of you in a sales position? Give some thought to how you can do that to other sections of your resume to really present yourself as a solid candidate. Don’t be afraid to get creative. Tailoring your resume for a job is always nerve-wracking- but especially when you’re feeling doubtful about whether or not you check all of the boxes. Don’t look at your seemingly untraditional experience as a drawback, and instead think of it as a positive. While you might assume that some of your skills or previous roles might be totally out of left field, they can actually give you a level of knowledge and expertise that sets you apart from the other candidates. Those unique experiences could equip you with some know-how that could serve you well in that position- even if it seems totally unrelated. Know someone looking for a job? E-Fest Program Kicks Off with Asia Pacific Event

E-Fest Program Kicks Off with Asia Pacific Event E-Fest Program Kicks Off with Asia Pacific Event ASME Launches E-Fest Program with Asia Pacific Event in India March 10, 2017 (Left to right) Dr. S.S. Gokhale, director of the LNM Institute of Information Technology (LNMIIT), ASME Executive Director Thomas Loughlin, B.V.R Mohan Reddy, founder and executive chairman of Cyient, ASME Past President Madiha El Mehelmy Kotb, and Dr. Ravi Gorthi, dean of academics at LNMIIT at the lamp lighting ceremony on the opening day of E-Fest Asia Pacific. (Photos courtesy of Bhavesh Kumar) Upwards of 800 student engineers from across India gathered in the northern city of Jaipur to compete, to learn from accomplished professionals, to network with both peers and industry representatives, and to party at ASMEs inaugural E-Fest held March 3-5. Ive made new friends, Ive learned about different cultures, and weve been exposed to ideas about the latest trends in engineering, said Jerin Benedict, who traveled 2,900 kilometers (more than 1,800 miles) to get to E-Fest Asia Pacific from the Bethlahem Institute of Engineering in Tamil Nadu. It took 36 hours by train and 12 hours by bus to get here. Prof. Manoj Kumar (right), head of the department of mechanical engineering at LNM Institute of Information Technology, welcomes ASME Executive Director Thomas Loughlin to E-Fest Asia Pacific. Energy was high throughout the three-day event in Jaipur, a popular tourist destination in the northwestern state of Rajistan. Its absolutely fantastic to be here in India for E-Fest, said ASME Executive Director Thomas Loughlin Theres passion, energy, creativity and pride that you see in every student here. It comes with the festival atmosphere. You see it in the competitions. Every team wants the other team to succeed. So theres a great sense of cheer, and its contagious. E-Fest Asia Pacific featured four competitions, presentations by leaders in business and industry, networking opportunities with both peers and working engineers, plus fireworks and live music. A famous Indian pop band, Euphoria, had no difficulty prompting students to party like an engineer during an outdoor Saturday night concert that lasted past midnight. The student team from Delhi Technological University was the overall winner at the Human Powered Vehicle Challenge (HPVC) regional competition at E-Fest Asia Pacific in India. The team also placed first in the competition’s design, women’s speed and men’s speed categories. E-Fest Asia Pacific was held at the LNM Institute of Information Technologys sprawling 100-acre campus. This has been an exhilarating and thrilling experience for my Institute, said Professor S.S. Gokhale, the Institutes director. I believe this has been a big success. A lot of students participated and the enthusiasm they showed in all of the events, whether it is the Student Design Competition, whether it is the Human Powered Vehicle Challenge (HPVC), whether it is a poster presentation. Right from the beginning to the end, they have had a tremendous amount of enthusiasm.... This has been a phenomenal success. Volunteering at E-Fest has been a good experience for me, remarkable for me, said Krati Maheshwari, one of 200 student volunteers helping to host the festival. Ive enjoyed this so much, she continued. Interacting with different people from different colleges from different parts of India.... It has been a proud moment for LNMIIT. Ive enjoyed the perks too. The t-shirt, and the food, which is so delicious. The concert was good, too. Euphoria, the band, was very rocking. We danced, and partied until 12:30. It was a very remarkable, amazing night. The student teams had to navigate through obstacles during the endurance event at the HPVC regional competition at E-Fest Asia Pacific. The team from B.H. Gardi College of Engineering and Technology were the winners of that event. The Human Powered Vehicle Competition spanned all three days of the festival, with a drag-race style speed test and a 2 ½ hour endurance test. The Student Design Competition set four challenges for small robots, including a lift test, a ball toss and a difficult stair climb. The ASME Old Guard Competition featured both posters and oral presentations. The Innovative Additive Manufacturing 3D (IAM3D) Challenge provided students with an opportunity to demonstrate their design skills for 3D printing. A special guest at the keynote address was B.V.R. Mohan Reddy, a prominent mechanical engineer and business leader whose company provides design engineering services to global companies. Other speakers included Dr. Anil Kakodkar, an advocate of clean energy who is former chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission of India. Talks also featured experts in advanced manufacturing, innovation and entrepreneurship, and leadership skills. Students prepare their entry for the ASME Student Design Competition, one of the regional ASME student competitions that took place at E-Fest Asia Pacific. In addition, ASME hosted an opportunity for students to meet informally with early- and mid-career engineers at E-Fest, which combined the best of both digital and in-person networking, according to Dr. Gokhale. While social media was used to mobilize resources and promote the event, he said the festival went an important step further. Facebook is perfectly alright, Gokhale said. But there is no replacement for person-to-person contact. Meeting somebody, rubbing shoulders has a completely different dimension... There is a definite advantage to meeting face-to-face. You meet somebody, you smile ... you understand the gist of what a person is feeling. And that is the advantage of old fashioned person-to-person communication. I value it. I cherish it. The Indian pop group Euphoria were the featured musical act at the Music Fest, one of the highlights of E-Fest Asia Pacific. E-Fest Asia Pacific was the first in a series of 2017 E-Fests: E-Fest West will take place from March 17 to 19 at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and E-Fest East will run from April 21 to 23 at Tennessee Tech University in Cookville. Helping close the ceremony and presenting awards at E-Fest Asia Pacific were ASMEs Paul Scott, interim executive director, ASME Foundation, and ASME Past President Madiha El Mehelmy Kotb. It is exciting to see so much potential in your talents, in your teamwork and your successes, Kotb told an appreciative audience. It is inspiring to feel the energy in a room of engineers like you. -Roger Torda, ASME Public Information

Survey Highly educated dads get the most time with their children

Survey Highly educated dads get the most time with their children Survey Highly educated dads get the most time with their children Although fathers are reporting being involved in their children’s lives more than ever before, the majority of them - about six in 10 - still say they spend too little time with their children, according to a new Pew Research Center  survey.Survey: Highly educated dads spend most time with their childrenThe likelihood that you were able to spend time with your children increased based on your level of education, the survey found. While half of fathers with a bachelor’s degree acknowledged that they were not getting enough time with their children, that number jumps up to 69% for fathers who did not complete college.  This finding challenges the stereotype of the corporate father too busy crunching numbers in an office building to make time for his kids at home.Fathers without a bachelor’s degree were the group most likely to report spending too little time with their children. They were also the group that was especially likely to report living apart from their children, with 28% reporting that they lived physically away from their kids compared to 8% of fathers with a bachelor’s degree or more reporting the same.Helping dads get more involved in child careWhen fathers are not involved in their children’s lives, it becomes both a family issue and a workplace one. For fathers, work obligations were listed as the top reason for missing time with their kids, according to the Pew Research Center survey.  When men are women are seen as equally responsible for childcare, studies have found that there are economic and personal benefits for everyone.Paid paternity leave is one potential solution to help fathers become more involved in childcare. One study  on 10,000 children in the U.S. found that fathers who took two or more weeks of leave were more likely to be involved in daily childcare activities later on in the child’s life.

Interview Questions About Your Emotional Intelligence

Interview Questions About Your Emotional Intelligence Interview Questions About Your Emotional Intelligence Increasingly, interviewers have begun to assess candidates’ emotional intelligence (EI) during the job interview process. Sometimes, interviewers assess emotional intelligence through written, psychological-based tests. Other times, interviewers simply ask particular questions to assess EI. What Is Emotional Intelligence? Emotional intelligence (EI) is the ability of an individual to understand his or her own emotions and the emotions of others. Testing job applicants for their emotional intelligence (in the form of psychological-based tests) is a growing trend in employment today, where many work settings require effective teamwork to meet project demands or service goals. If a worker has high emotional intelligence, he or she is more likely to be able to express his or her emotions healthily and understand the emotions of those he or she works with, thus enhancing work relationships and performance. What the Interviewer Really Wants to Know Interview questions that assess emotional intelligence tend to focus on how the interviewee manages himself and manages relationships with others. The questions asked are often  behavioral questions, meaning that they ask the interviewee to explain how he or she acted in a past employment-related situation. Below are some examples of typical EI interview questions. Interview Questions About Emotional Intelligence What is one of your weaknesses? How do you overcome that weakness? What motivates you to do your work?Describe a stressful work situation you’ve had. How did you resolve that situation? What are one or two things that make you angry or frustrated at work? What do you do when you get angry or frustrated at work?Tell me about a time when you received feedback on your performance, and you disagreed with the feedback. How did you handle the situation?Tell me about a setback you had at work. How did you handle it? Describe a time when you made a big mistake at work. How did you handle the situation?Tell me about a time when you had to handle multiple work assignments at once. How did you feel? How did you handle the situation?Tell me about a time when you took on a task at work that was new to you. How did you feel doing it?How would you handle a coworker who consistently does not pull his weight on group assignments? How do your colleagues benefit from working with you?Tell me about a time when you did or said something that had a positive impact on an employee, coworker, or customer. Have you ever noticed that someone at work was having a bad day? How did you know? What did you do?Tell me about a time when you had a dispute with a colleague. What did you do to deal with the situation?Describe a time when a colleague came to you with a problem. How did you respond?Tell me about a time when understanding someone else’s perspective helped you accomplish a task or resolve an issue.Tell me about a time when you motivated someone to accomplish a task. How did you motivate him or her? Why is it important to develop a rapport with your colleagues? How do you build a rapport with your colleagues? Tips for Giving the Best Answer Anticipate Tricky Questions:  The best way to ace a job interview is to plan on answering  difficult interview questions  that may arise before you even walk into the room. While questions about your emotional intelligence can be challenging, other questions may be equally tricky, depending upon your individual strengths and work experience (or lack thereof). Do a Practice Interview:  You may be asked questions which you haven’t thought about, such as “Where would you like to be in your career in five years?” or “Tell us about your greatest failure on the job and how you handled this.” Thus, it’s wise to practice your answers to potential interview questions, as well as to realize that there are certain interview questions that employers  should not ask. One of the best techniques is to ask a friend to play the role of your interviewer so that you can practice these common interview  questions and answers. What Not to Say Don’t Say Anything Negative About Anyone:  Obviously, you wouldn’t trash your former bosses, clients, or co-workers while answering a question about emotional intelligence. But take care not to say anything negative during other parts of the interview that will call into question your EI. Don’t complain about former employers or colleagues â€" the interviewer will wonder if you’ll say the same about this organization, should you get hired. Don’t Stretch the Truth to Make a Good Story:  Chances are, you’ve overcome setbacks, helped colleagues with their projects, and had a positive impact on your team at some point during your career. Come prepared with a genuine story to relate, rather than trying to put a positive spin on a so-so interaction. Most people are pretty good at telling when the person they’re talking to is being insincere. Possible Follow-Up Questions Tell me about your work experience. â€"  Best AnswersWhat type of work environment do you prefer? â€"  Best AnswersAre you easy to talk to? â€"  Best AnswersWhat are your career goals? â€"  Best AnswersDo you work well with other people? â€"  Best Answers Key Takeaways ANTICIPATE DIFFICULT QUESTIONS: Be prepared to answer questions about your weaknesses, setbacks, motivation, and interactions with colleagues.PRACTICE INTERVIEWING: Ask a trusted friend to play the role of interviewer and practice answering these questions.BE SINCERE: Come to the interview with genuine examples of how you demonstrated empathy, understanding, self-knowledge, and the ability to learn.

Demand for an Experienced Compliance Officer

Demand for an Experienced Compliance Officer Demand for an Experienced Compliance Officer When you need to hire a compliance professional, one of the first lines of your job posting is likely to say, “At least five years of experience required.” It might even insist applicants have a work history in your specific industry. Jin Bacheller, division director for Financial Services in Chicago, sees it all the time. “Companies want someone who can hit the ground running,” he says. “If you’re in financial services, you want someone with a financial services background,” adds Ryan Glowczewski, division director for in St. Louis. “Compliance roles are very industry-specific, and top candidates are in heavy demand.” With competition over experienced compliance officers on the rise - and a shrinking number of top candidates looking for new jobs - managers may find they need to rethink hiring strategies and compensation. Read on for recruitment tips and salary benchmarks in three job markets where the need for compliance officers is high. Recruiting passive candidates in St. Louis Supply and demand is a challenge across the country. “In St. Louis, we often have to recruit passive candidates to find experienced compliance officers,” says Glowczewski. Of course, that’s a strategy that requires an extensive professional network to draw on, and a considerable amount of time for the outreach. Glowczewski has a more helpful suggestion for managers: Maintain realistic expectations throughout the hiring process. “For many, an ideal applicant already has accounting certifications, like the Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) or Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA). But it takes time to earn those, and many otherwise strong candidates don’t yet have them,” he says. “Certifications can be earned while on the job,” he adds. “Managers should consider paying for professional training for newly hired compliance officers. Companies that sponsor professional development for their workers know that the employee and company are both getting exactly what they need.” To compete for top candidates in financial services, be prepared to pay at least the midpoint compliance officer salary, which is $124,000 in St. Louis. Highly experienced candidates who already have CIA, CISA or other designations might expect more. Looking to hire? Download the 2019 Salary Guide for Accounting and Finance Professionals to benchmark salaries in your area. Competition for candidates in Minneapolis “Competition here is intense, especially for candidates well-versed in financial laws and regulations, banking products and service lines, and working with auditors and regulators,” says Douglas L. Rickart, vice president of Financial Services in Minneapolis. To get ahead of the competition, Rickart suggests employers accelerate their hiring process. “In many cases, hiring managers want candidates to come back for multiple interviews with other employees,” he says. “But you risk losing top applicants to the competition if you take too long to make a decision.” In Minneapolis, experienced compliance officers will expect a midpoint salary of close to $132,000 in financial services, according to the Salary Guide. “Candidates with professional certifications may demand higher salaries,” Rickart adds. The most in-demand designations here are the Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional Program (CCEP) and Investment Adviser Certified Compliance Professional (IACCP). Hard to find compliance officers to hire in Chicago “The compliance roles we typically have available here can be quite diverse, covering traditional banking, startups, real estate and private equity,” Bacheller says. But it’s hard to find the right people here to staff those roles. Bacheller urges companies to offer competitive compensation to help recruitment efforts. For a compliance officer in a corporate setting, the midpoint salary in Chicago is $126,750. Candidates with extensive experience and certifications, such as Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists (ACAMS) and Chief Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM), may earn more. Getting the pay scale right is the first step. The next challenge is finding available compliance professionals. “Most of the top candidates we find are passive job seekers,” Bacheller says. “Employers can scour LinkedIn to find individual candidates who might be willing to move from their current companies, but that involves a lot of time and legwork.” And this rarely succeeds for employers who try to do it without the help of a recruiter. According to Bacheller, the most effective strategy is to contact a specialized staffing firm. Working with an outside recruiter lets you sidestep many hiring headaches. In most cases, just tell them what you’re looking for in a compliance officer (or any other position you need to staff). They’ll dive into their deep network of active and passive job seekers and come back with highly skilled candidates in your area - then you’re ready to start interviewing. Ready to hire?
